Our new garden project - the West 10th Community Garden - will be located near to the corner of West 10th & Tolmie Street, in the heart of the Point Grey neighbourhood.
The vacant lot where we will build the garden was once a Safeway. The Safeway officially closed its doors in 2018 and the location has remained vacant ever since. Eventually, the lot will be transformed into new apartments + a new grocery store. In the meantime, we are excited to partner with the landowners to create a beautiful growing space where the community can come together and enjoy flowers, herbs, fruits, veggies and all other plants alike.
As a reminder, we have a land-use agreement with the landowner to make use of the site on an interim, temporary timeline. We can’t guarantee the future of the garden beyond this date, but we can guarantee that we’ll do everything possible to keep the garden in place for years to come. We take things growing season-by growing season. The projects are temporary and the gardens will be removed/relocated.
