Hello fellow gardeners,
We can’t believe that it's November already and that our rainy city just had its first snowfall.
Here are a couple of garden updates as we transition into the cooler months.
CLEANING YOUR BEDS
Your beds should now be cleaned out and ready to overwinter. You can still continue to use your beds throughout the winter, but please keep them tidy.
Cleaning out excess plants cuts down on rotting vegetation and gives the garden a tidy look through the winter months.
WATER SHUT OFF
The water has now been shut off for the winter.
REMINDER: Please respect other peoples’ growing space
Some gardeners prefer to keep growing food throughout the winter months. If you see food growing in other people's plots, please assume it is being tended to and leave it alone for the gardener who owns the plot to harvest.
NEXT YEAR
As we all know, our garden is a temporary one. That said, we hope to keep the garden going into 2022 (and beyond!). We’ll keep you posted on any upcoming changes to the site.
VANCOUVER COMMUNITY FRIDGE PROJECT
We thought we would remind you of this fabulous initiative in case you have some extra food to spare…
The Vancouver Community Fridge Project aims to combat food insecurity and decrease food waste by encouraging our communities to take part in laterally-directed mutual aid, starting with providing free, safe, non-policed, accessible and nutritious foods through community fridges and pantries.
The Vancouver Community Fridge Project is a great opportunity to give back to the community by sharing some of the delicious fresh food that you grow with neighbors and community members. If you are interested in donating to the Community Fridge Project, check out their list of fridges and find a location that works for you!
