Frosty Mornings at Cambie & 59th

It’s now that time of the year where the frosty night are becoming more consistent and the daylight hours are very short. It’s been a beautiful fall at the Cambie & 59th gardens and we’re feeling very grateful for this years growing season. Don’t forget to line your beds with the fallen leaves if you’re planning to overwinter plants or if you’ve cleaned your beds out.

We are now past the half way mark and have entered into the dog days of summer. Watering your plants every day or so is important. Make sure to check that they’re getting a good soaking by digging into the soil and seeing if it’s wet or dry. You’ll be surprised by how much water is needed for a good soaking.

The water is flowing through the hoses and there for you to make use of. During hot stretches of 3-4 days, your young plants and seedlings will want a nice dousing. It's often best to water your garden during the 'shoulder' times of the day (early morning/evening) when the sun's heat is less extreme. Water on your veg leaves during midday heat can cause scalding.
