With September now here and the first signs of fall arriving, it’s a great time to get your fall/winter garden planted. There’s a wide variety of cool weather veggies you can plant to maximize this year’s and the beginning of next year’s growing season.
The heat of the dog days
We are now past the half way mark and have entered into the dog days of summer. Watering your plants every day or so is important. Make sure to check that they’re getting a good soaking by digging into the soil and seeing if it’s wet or dry. You’ll be surprised by how much water is needed for a good soaking.

Watering your plants through June
Warm spring days ahead at Cambie & 59th
The water is flowing through the hoses and there for you to make use of. During hot stretches of 3-4 days, your young plants and seedlings will want a nice dousing. It's often best to water your garden during the 'shoulder' times of the day (early morning/evening) when the sun's heat is less extreme. Water on your veg leaves during midday heat can cause scalding.

A Warm December at the Cambie & 59th Garden
The garden is open year-round, although we don't expect things to get started in a big way until Spring. You can expect to have the hoses set up again after first frost (late March/early April), and look out for an announcement about our first ever Meet & Greet event in April. This event will serve as the official deadline for paying your garden fees.
